Important Things To Note When Completing A Change Of Address Form For New York

• Firstly, if you are moving from another state, you’ll need to get a new driver’s license. This requires you to personally visit New York’s Department of Motor Vehicle’s office. Unfortunately, this part can’t be done using the Change of Address Form or online. However, you can make an appointment in advance and come in at a set time with the required documentation.
• While you won’t be required to take a test to obtain a new license, it will cost you between USD 65-75, depending on where you are moving to in New York State.
• For people moving within the state of New York, things are a little more straightforward. However, this does mean you only have 10 days to get your paperwork in order. There are three ways to notify the DMV of your change of address:
  • Completing the form and submitting it online
  • Visiting the New York DMV to submit the form in person
  • Completing the form and posting it to the DMV in New York (Remember to allow adequate time for the paperwork to arrive in a timely fashion)
• Naturally, those moving within the state don’t need a new driver’s license. However, there is an admin charge associated with the change of address. It costs USD 17.50 to get an updated driver’s license with your new address on it and USD 8 for a non-driver ID card.
